We are soon to be making the decision also.
We have lots of friends who race both.
Pros and cons with rotax and x30 from what I have found out.
Pros: Rotax, very very reliable, loads around, x30 moves should see good kit for acceptable prices. Strong grids at nearly every track. Sealed motors, good for legal kit, but can be more to service, but very long re- build times. Supported by S1
Cons: Need to be on a green kart that move, twist and bend just by looking at them, tyres are pants and don't last. Jetting can be tricky to get accurate
Pros: X30, motors are more equal (at present) but already some large differences are showing up. Becoming very popular at SOME tracks, other venues have no grids. Unsealed motors. Dont need to be on a green kart. No S1 at present
Cons: Reliability does not look great compared to rotax, coils, plugs, starters, reeds, looms fail or need regular preventive maintenance. Unsealed motors has seen some playing and excluded from results
Rotax evo maybe the best option, but not much feedback at present
