I'd concur with Ian. Really good grid of J TKM at Rowrah which I appreciate is a bit of a drive from Tyneside, but not too bad. Great facilities for a weekend away as well.
We moved up early (11) as my lad was over the Cadet limit as well, he's just turned 13.
Cost wise, loads of suitable chassis that don't have to be 'green', engines are cheap, very easy to maintain and reliable, pretty equal at club level in our experience as well. People say the carbs are not very good but we haven't had any trouble for over a year now, just re-kitting (a few pounds) every 4-5 races. Tyres will no doubt vary at each track, but we only fit a new set about every 3-4 races (if they're all dry) and are reasonably competitive.
Real bonus is that there's so little to go wrong; no electrics other than the ignition, no clutch if you go direct drive, no starter, no radiator.
If you want good old fashioned close racing it's still the way to go!
