There is no (persuasive) evidence to show that neck braces help. If there was, then the MSA and all the rest of motorsport would insist we use them. It's only in one branch of off-road motorcycling that it's recommended or required. For me, that speaks VOLUMES!
Wear one if you want to..... but don't get the idea that this will increase your lad's safety because there simply is not enough clear evidence for the 'powers that be' to recommend them or enforce them. If there was, you can bet the MSA would pass a rule that we ALL have to wear them. They have never worried (rightly, in my opinion) if a safety measure was going to cost large sums of money.
My point is: keep in mind that the MSA have not so far recommended them..... why not?
