I agree that neck braces may or may not help, depending on the type of shunt involved. They are unlikely to be much use on an inverted driver under a kart. I am a former medic and having done some time in A&E departments, was keen for my lad to wear a neck brace in Cadet and into early part of Minimax until he had grown stronger. The main reason was to prevent whiplash, this is relevent with weaker, young necks - thats why lightweight CMR helmets were made a requirement for kids. The neck braces he used, foam and then EVS, worked well on the occasions he had big shunts from behind or into barriers with rear, front and side impact. He agreed they helped with these as the neck brace prevented over extension and whiplash. However, he is now 14 and bigger, uglier and much stronger, now driving X30 so has stopped using one as he feels its no longer necessary, which is probably fine. How 3 years of race weekends have impacted on my heart function is another issue..! :-)
