Yes..... it's SO obvious that a neck brace will work that the MSA won't recommend them......
All I asked is 'how do you know?'. I then commented, if you have the FACTS (not opinions and guesses) it would be good if you posted them. I stick to those requests/statements.
In my 50 years karting, I have had MANY more accidents (and almost certainly MUCH bigger ones) than your lad has, including flat in 6th at Snetterton and ending up on my helmet for...... quite a few yards.......... I have never worn a neck brace and have never suffered whip-lash in karting. I started karting when I was 6 when I had even weaker muscles than your lad. By your logic, that counts as 'proof that no-one needs a neck brace. In the real world, my experience 'proves' nothing! Even my 50 years is too small a sample on which to claim 'proof'! We are talking about 'anecdotes' not 'proof', here.
However, as I must have said 10 times already, it's YOUR choice. I don't want to take that away from anyone.
I just don't want other dads thinking there is enough evidence published on which to base an opinion about these things! When the MSA feel they can recommend them, based on evidence, then I'd consider them. Until then, I'll rely on my trusty 'blue socks' which I have worn all these years! I haven't had a whip-lash injury so it must be the 'socks'..... ! I put it this way to illustrate the point: anecdotes are NOT proof!!
