Thanks for all the great advice. I raced 250gp two stoke motorcycles then BSB superstock so I know all about wasting money on the illusion that money can buy talent. One very wise ex Grand Prix racer once told me "concentrate on the cycle not the motor as there was more time to be gained in set up than bhp"......very true. The good news is that this view chimes with my philosophical position which is I am a tight and hate spending money while others may still truly believe that at the top level money can buy success, equally true for those with money as we all want to be proven right while looking clever. The top and bottom of it is, my son as yet doesn't have the gene, you know the missing ingredient between winners and the rest and to be honest I'm wise enough to know that I can't buy that gene from any engine tuner or even believe it will ever develop enough in him to make him ultra quick. So I will take my money and spend it wisely, have fun with my son and enjoy our time together without risking it all like he would on a motorcycle. We all believe what we believe and that's fine by me, and my son, he clearly understands that he's not winning because he's not fast enough and it has absolutely nothing to do with his kart or anyone else's
