We had a great weekend at Hooton Park, it was our first visit to the track and I feel the need to heap praise.
The paddock was a refreshing experience, being mainly lad and dad or small teams, no massive awnings and trucks to be seen. The people were so friendly, chatty and helpful, this is what Karting should be like, a friendly fun experience for the parents and the kids.
We were helped on the grid to make a last minute switch from wets to slicks by no less than three other dads, thank you guys, that was very kind.
The friendly attitudes didn't stop in the paddock, the officials and especially the scrutineers were helpful, friendly and polite, a marked opposite from a certain club in the south west that shall remain nameless.
The place isn't perfect but where is? The oil refinery nearby makes for some interesting aromas and is a little noisy at night, if camping you might want to take earmuffs to aid a good nights sleep. However there are no noise issues to worry about which is great, warm your engine up all you like!
The track is quite short but is fun, fast and narrow meaning any major errors usually end up with a trip to the nearest muddy puddle. Aside from a bumper bolt failure, we had a damage free weekend which made a nice change.
All in all, a great place and to come away with juniors first piece of silverware was a massive bonus. We willl definitely be back for more, thank you Hooton.
