If you follow all the thread you will find a reasonably detailed breakdown of a budget for doing Stars, S1 and many club meetings for a year. All in it came to under £10k - still a lot of money but it was intended to allow someone to do their own budget based on what racing they wanted to do. It ignored the start-up costs of buying the kart/engine/race suit and so on. If you need to employ a mechanic/driver coach then that will be extra and not everyone will have the knowledge to do it themselves. Some will choose to race with a team so that they have the awning space, maybe some hospitality, compressors etc available. There are people who have race trucks which probably depreciate by £10k to £15k per year. If you take the real full costs including time off work for travel on a Thursday so the you can practice on Friday you can add more cost in. But... you can do one or two club meetings every month - have lots of fun and keep the costs down.
