... is all about really.
I've just been watching the Rallycross on MotorsTV this evening and guess what: they cut the corners as well! Not only on mid corner but also on the outside going wide on approach to corners. Of course there's no kerbs in rallycross, but on the tarmac sections you can clearly see the white line. Well... what I mean by that is that the spectators can clearly see them, what the drivers see is the RACE LINE!!!
So here's my point (and I believe almost every other racer's out there): yes we know where the law stands and in principle we follow its line, however, every track has its characteristics, its race line, which in certain places might include the odd kerb or two. We all understand that the rule is there to prevent cheating but primarily for safety reasons. We also all know (we get told it at drivers briefing) what we can, but more importantly what we cannot do on a specific track and a specific day. And guess what: it works.
So what the whole fuss about it? Yes, it all started with that cheese stuff that we're obliged to stick to the bottom of our chassis from next season. But IMHO this again is the wrong solution to a problem that simply wasn't there in the first place.
Once again IMHO. Dan
