There are many types of mag wheels: composition, shape, structure, volume etc and a vast array of prices.
Example: OTK 1/2 mag (MXP) wheels & full mag wheels. The full mags are stiffer (but lighter) and tend to reduce grip but control the tyre temperature better. So by having a set of each type you can affect the way your kart handles, including mixing them up eg one type on the front and another on the back.
When the track is hot and sticky in the summer your kart might have too much grip, so trying mag wheels might help. If you have too much turn-in or front grip you might consider putting mags on the front.
Expensive but worthwhile in the long run. Get some advice in the paddock next time you race before buying.
The words "magnesium", "low-volume" and "polished" all seem to have an upward effect on price. This is presumably why you won't find any wheels called "bog-standard" LOL
