Just been told by Graham that our friend Kim Newman lost his fight with cancer in the early hours of this morning. For those of you lucky enough to have known Kim you will share the enormous sense of loss his passing will bring. I dont think I am exagerating when I say Kim was the best friend any of us could have at a race track. Knowledgable, helpful above and beyond the call, friendly, funny, ever optomistic yet a realist, generous - the good words to describe Kim are'nt sufficient to encapsulate just what a magnificent bloke Kim was. The amount of times his hard work ensured myself, John and Mark (and others)made the grid I cant count. Nothing was ever too much trouble for this giant of a man. We are so much poorer for his passing, we can only be grateful for what he taught us all and the great times we had together.
51 years is no age, he was racing still up until a couple of years ago - and what a great racer Kim was, hard but fair. One time he accidentally ran into the back of me at Matchams, so he offered me his kart the next time out - which I proceeded to stuff the radiator on. For Kim that was just one of those things, it was all about getting out there racing. His unstinting work for his lady Julie brought them the championship at Matchams in 2006 and if ever there was an example of team effort that was it. Now Kims taken the final chequered flag himself, rest in peace my friend, its been an honour to race with you and to know you.
