That may have been me and Chris. I run a 2005 project one and too have struggled to find a balance most likely down to my inexperience.
Take the rear hubs out to the circlips and put 20mm spacers on front stubs, it's a reasonable starting point, you may have to go wider.
I've altered seat position, bodywork stiffness, rear track etc...
Biggest difference was getting the rear to behave and understanding why it was acting the way it did, I was getting oversteer mid corner, giving the rear less grip sorted this, it now slides gently instead of breaking away quickly - the tyres were gripping then giving up so less grip promotes a predictable slide.
I'm only getting 16300 but then i struggle with the final corner, i'm getting better though so I imagine max rpm will rise with a better exit.
