Unfortunately this thread just totally reinforced my new found understanding of the wonderful world of high level motor sport (having briefly glimpsed it from the inside).
Basically it's got f' all to do with the absolute best drivers and far more to do with the most pushy influential parents, their wallets and the ability of their engine builders to skirt the rules.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that some winning drivers aren't good, but nowadays from Cadet karts to F1, the drivers skills count less and less. The Hamilton, Button role reversal this year confirms this as well.
The only positive I can extract from this it that things are far worse in France where this seems to be actively condoned and encouraged by the Federation. While in the UK the MSA do at least pay some lip service to keeping racing equal and accessable to normal people.
