S1 should be the pinnacle of the UK karting scene. It should be the best in every way, shape and form. Driving should be the best and the sport should be non contact which I think we can all agree currently isn't. The camera's will help stamp out the bad driving (cheats).
I have spoken to a lot of people recently who have brought up the conversation about F1 next season and how they are looking forward to it with MS coming back and JB and LH racing in the same team. These people are not die hard racing fans and know very little about karting. I think the next year will see a lot of interest in karting as a result of F1 and I for one would like them to see the sport at its best not at its worst. Using the camera technology will show these people that we do not tolerate pushing, ramming and what ever else you want to call the blantent cheating that goes on. This can only be good for the sport.
As far as costs go, well if you compete you will be on TV, go find a sponser to help with the extra cost. Even if you only get half of the extra cost you are still getting very good value because anybody that punts you off on purpose stands a good chance of getting punished for it.
The sport needs a radical shake up, it's not going to be a favourite for everybody but then again you have got club racing to fall back to and you still have the open events and festivals and god knows how many other cups to go and compete for that will be within the old budget.
If what John said is correct about the 28,000 coming from the club racers pocket then I would want this investment to be a good one and camera's stopping cheating and TV coverage is a good investment, it's certainly a better investment to what we have got now from a club racers point of view.
Chris.
