Clearly thats an irrelevant argument, we are not talking about sitting in classrooms are we? My point is the exact opposite, from my own personal experience, if id spent the same amount of time doing test days as I did being coached, I would be no-way near! There are many ways of getting lost in karting (I bet you agree with me there!) and the best way I can describe coaching is that it keeps you on the right path, be it setup, mental approach or your actual driving!
My remark about pompous idiots was directed to the sweeping generalisations people post (yes i was referring to your original post there!) and the stubborn "I'm right, everyone else is wrong" attitude that seems to dominate the forum!
Of course there are some absolutely hopeless individuals, but my own belief is that by spending some time with a good coach (note:good coach, not simply a good driver;they are different things!) most karters could improve their performance. As a result they could go home on sunday evening happier, and apart from the f1-wannabees at national level, I think that view sits nicely with the majority of karters, no?
