The exclusion of Michael Simpson at Rowrah Rotax S1 illustrates the ridiculous situation of the Rotax clutch. The introduction of the new clutch was explained as eliminating clutch slippage ("cheating") and it was made mandatory at S1 to use the new clutch. Cue expensive changes to all S1 engines. Subsequently it was shown to be ineffective for the purpose and the data-logger became mandatory. We are now on the third version of the new clutch as they are prone to breakage.
Why not just allow either old clutch or new clutch and permit slippage? It would save all competitors and scrutineers a lot of hassle.
