Sounds to me RoadRat your lad had made a reasonable and fair call to overtake the other driver on his inside to attack the apex of the corner assuming the other driver make the mistake of running slightly wide i.e a full width of the kart, It's possible and can be assumed the other driver has taken offence to the situation having just been cleanly passed and has actively decided to deliberately turn the front of his kart and or his front wheel into contact the rear bumper of your lad's kart with deliberate intention to 'bin him' It's not un-common at some circuits for the clerk's to show some degree of lattitude towards a local know driver i.e to give them the benefit of doubt in such situations as opposed to siding with an unknown or visiting driver. We've experienced the same situation a few times ourselves which appears unfair at the time, but sometimes you just have to accept the situation as it's a fact of life and extremely difficult to prove unless you could have called third-party witnesse's at the time to support your lads defence!!
