It all depends on conditions, tyres, track, kart and driver! We always went for softer axle would give less rear grip, which seems to be the standard outlook, however one hot sticky day when we were trying to reduce rear 'grip' we accidently put in an extra hard axle instead of a soft (2 different manufacture axles used the same colour for different softnesses) and bam, super fast with super release!
This through all the 'general' setup comments out the window, and the only way you'll ever know is by testing on your chassis, with your type of tyres in different conditions until you have a database of what works and what doesnt.
However, if you dont want to play around and worrying about setup all you need is a Formula K ;) easy!
