First try using it with the temp lead disconnected. If the other functions of the Alfano work then you know the problem lies with the temp lead.
Next you need to borrow another RPM lead off someone else's Alfano that you know works. Put it on your Alfano and make sure you don't loop the lead back on itself as it will give you false readings.
Next you need to borrow a magnetic pickup lead that you know works and then go out on track and do a couple of laps. If it works you know you need new leads.
If this doesn't work then you need to borrow a magnetic sensor that you know works and go back out there and do a couple of laps (with the borrowed leads). If it works then you know that the problem is the magnetic pickup lead (although you need to then do this test with your own leads aswell just in case it's both the magnetic pick up and the leads that are faulty).
If none of these test work then the problem looks like it's lies with the Alfano unit.
I had problems with my Alfano recently and it showed all sorts of gobbledygouch on the screen. By using the above methods I narrowed it down to the pick up sensor, got a new one and it now all works fine.
