True, but almost every kid in the country plays footie so there is even less chance statistically speaking of becoming a pro football star. I was once told that the 'let's get karting' programme was set up to encourage youngsters into a sport that had a serious lack of newcomers to fill jobs down the line. True that there are now less paid racing jobs than there used to be, but, there are for more motoring journalists, track day instructors, development drivers, test drivers etc than ever there was before. IF you also take into account all the engineering jobs in the UK that would benefit from driver insight there is a strong case for holding onto our young drivers for as long as possible.
