What level you racing at? Was this after a heat or a final and is money a factor here?
I only ask because I learnt from experience that unless you're chasing a huge points reinstatement in a major champs due to bad scruts it just isn't worth the pain. Kinda like trying to overturn a parking fine with your local council.. Sometimes it's just easier to pay the 60 quid fine even tho you've done nothing wrong.
However ..measuring that clearance should be done with 1mm rosin core solder. Can the scruts confirm that? Was a second vernier used and were they calibrated for you to see?? I'm sure there are lots of questions that could be used as an argument against, along with those temperature variables.
