I have been out of racing for 3 years and raced a couple of times in Rotax at the end of the year - my kit was old and I did not have the latest bits (airboxes, exhausts, grub screws, whatever it is at the moment), and although I love racing, the thought of spending updating my engines really didn't excite me. Additionally almost every single person I spoke to in the class seemed to be fed up with Rotax, for various reasons.
I haven't even driven the X30 yet but I'm racing this weekend and just thinking about it gets me excited for karting again. Everyone going across seems to be in the same boat, and the drivers I know of who are going can all race - I would much rather race a grid of 10 of them than 30 muppets.
I thought about waiting a few months to see how it goes and hedge my bets with rotax but hated the thought of it, and someone has to make the jump first - I have no doubt the grid will be at least 5 bigger by February for us being there initially.
