Karting was still bl*ody expensive back then so I have a feeling that the decline is mainly due to other factors such as boring, heavy karts, stupid regulations etc....

Personally, after 10 years of kart racing, one season of Rotax turned me off completely from the sport. I now have an old 100cc reed valve which we occasionally still blast around and would definitely race it in F100 if the chassis was old enough! If you can't play with carbs/engine/setup then I'm not interested.

We've been totally obsessed with this 'level playing field' cr*p for so long that it totally takes the fun out of it. Again in my opinion I like to see a grid of different go karts, different engines, different carbs etc revving like mad and going blo*dy fast like in those videos above! For me, karting has totally lost it's way. I watched some of the Super 1 videos from last year and couldn't be more bored.

It's all now about "talent should shine through instead of money" blah blah blah.... I may be the only one but I got just as much enjoyment from karting when I was trailing around fighting for last place with a 4 year old chassis/engine as I did when we did finally get some equipment that we could win with. A weekend of racing was about competing and having fun, and me and the old man blindly delving into the mystical world of engines/carbs and trying to understand it all! Now the sport is just seen as a stepping stone to F3 etc and it's ruined the enjoyment of it all....... IMO ofcourse!
