Disagree, Gearbox is swings and roundabouts different to Rotax in terms of complexity. I've raced both, and they've both got good and bad points.
Rotax - Powervalve, jetting, getting a decent engine is not easy. Costs are out of control for good engines. Tyre batches were hit or miss when I last raced it 3 years ago.
Gearbox - Change your own pistons, front brakes. More routine engine maintenence, but lower total rebuild costs at end of season.
Gearbox way more fun (in my opinion), but demands more fitness, and learning curve steeper if you're going to get decent times.
Most important - How many people would you be racing against in each class?
You're thinking about it, so I'd strongly suggest now going and doing it. Your bank balance will regret it, but your heart won't!
