Nationals are EXTREME versions of 2 strokes! They are NOT 'toys' and they need careful set up and CONSTANT adjustment!
They do NOT use 'standard' carb settings but require you to set them 'dynamically' (adjust them while moving).
If you post your email address here, I'll send you my advice on setting the carb.
Secondly the starting problem is usually due to how you are pushing the thing! We were at Rye last Friday and 4 nationals were being started in the MOST unusual ways andf they had LOADS of failures!! I'll post you my 'startrng advice' too.
Finally, you would expect it to be harder to start while running in. You should be DELIBEARTELY runniung it rich while you run in and thus it will be harder to start as the plug will be oily. Do you keep a can on EasyStart with you to sray into the carb to 'assist' and/or to 'wash' the plugs when they are wet? If not....... why not!
