It's actually VERY simple:-

Until you are WELL up towards the 'front end', the 'Monsters' don't make THAT much difference..... so long as it's LEGAL stuff that's done with the motors: obviously, a 'Christo' motor will make a CHIMP look good ....... as it did with HIM!

BUT... when you ARE at the 'sharp end' you are up against GOOD drivers and.... if THEY have a 'monster' and you DON'T..... they will beat you 8 times out of 10!

How do you KNOW when you NEED a 'monster'? When his lap times can be delivered REPEATEDLY 'on demand'! By that I mean....... ask him to go out an repeat 5 laps within 1/10th of each other in SEQUENCE at about 95% of his FASTEST laps! At THAT point, the motor WILL make a difference that you can SEE!

Until then, I would suggest that tyre understanding would be more important than the engine!
