John,
How is it prossible for you to know that it will be down on power before anyone has even seen the engine run in public?
If Talko have managed to do what they say and produce an engine which complies with all the existing regulations, which is equal in performance to the existing BT82 AND allows TAG operation then where exactly is the downside?
The only place the engine will have been needed to be changed is at the crankcase, so the barrel and head will be able to be basically unchanged and this is where the engines performance comes from, barrel and head. If you are claiming that running the charging system will sap a significant level of power that the stopwatch would notice then I'd be surprised.
I personally see this as Talko's continued revival of the TKM Class.
The ONLY way that other class drivers have been able to knock this "Big Bang for your Buck" class has been the "pushing problem".
The "pushing problem" will have been removed, so now we would appear to have a class which offers Touch and Go (and you don't need to constantly worry about charging the battery between races!), mass availability of second hand affordable chassis, class stability because older Direct Drive engines and Outboard Starter Engines are still acceptable AND probably the lowest running cost of any 2-stroke class in MSA racing.
Methinks the Rotax Supporters Club should start to get worried.
The USP of the Rotax Class in the UK is now not quite so Unique!
Pete
