"No formula blue racing in the east or north"
That's rubbish.
Formula blue is one of the biggest grids in the Midlands /Manchester area and also in Scotland. According to tales on this forum drivers from both areas often meet for Racing in the middle. (Rowrah has been mentioned I think.)
There's also a strong contingent of Blues running in the East though they are mainly non-MSA.
Rye House for example, though not a frequently mentioned Blues club is hosting a round of the NKRA championships this year, and last year Buckmore did the same, though you may count them as 'South' rather than 'East'.
And Crashlanding ought to be able to find a raceworthy Blue outfit for his kind of money. Good secondhand engines seem to go for around 700 to 900 and you can use any legal homologated chassis. There are people out there doing well on most brands, so you need to choose a chassis that works well for your weight.
Of course the big advantage of Blues is that being an equalised class (Power is adjusted according to driver weight), being the right weight isn't as important as it is in other classes, which makes it less of a 'special' engine class than Rotax, while allowing more chassis setup than TKM.
