The clutch won't do that sort of problem.... unless you are not dscribing it accurately.....
Mecahnical problems need VERY accurate description to let us diagnose them. I show you what I mean:-
If, for example, the clutch is 'snatching' (suddenly going from 'not gripping' to 'LOCKED' with no 'sliding' between the two), then the motor would tick over nicely but, when you apply the throttle, the kart would LURCH forward and stall (stop suddenly). A test for this would be to start it, get in, get friends to PUSH the kart as fast as they can and THEN press the throttle... that would allow the engine to 'get up to speed' before the clutch GRABS... However, I'll bet that is NOT what is happening...
So, describe the reactions of the kart on the stand and the reaction of when it does NOT do what you want it to and we may be able to advise. For example:-
* does the motor produce LOTS of smoke when runing on the stand? * What state is the spark plug (When removed, is the tip of it black, wet and dripping or dry and white? * Is there fuel drippinjg out of the carb? Does the engine ract IMMEDIATELY when you aplly the throttle or does it hesitate?
However, like Jake, I'll bet it's the carb... but again, only an ACCURATE description of the problem will help us diagnose it.
We are pretty good here and we WILL be able to solve the problem... if you give us enough info.
And we LIKE to help, if we can!
