Re Mark W' s thread below. I'm with him it is an absolute nonsense to expect drivers to turn up on the dummy grid with half assembled karts. Not all of us have the luxury of having a mechanic available. They have been doing it at WM, but only the final last time. The last thing I need 5 minutes before the start of a race is being up to my elbows in grease trying to get the chain adjusted, which was the case last time out.
Had I been at Kim I would have seriously thought about not bothering. It's basically not worth the hassle and arguably there are also safety implications (engine mounts dropping off etc)
There are a number of options:
1) Just ignore it, hope they let you race and take the disqualification 2) Get everyone in the class to sign up to a waiver
For gentleman racers like myself (2) has got to be a reasonable option. As far as I'm concerned anyone who wants to cheat for the satifaction of picking up a 5 plastic trophy is welcome to it. I still race karts for FUN and have been since 1978. Am I the only amateur left or are only semi professionals now welcome? What do you think?
