David.
My writing may have been careless, linking the dates with DK and Roy but I wasn't suggesting (either) that Roy Mailer drove for a SINGLE team throughout the 1960's and 1970's which you could also extrapolate, wrongly, from my comment.
I think Roy DID drive, on some occasions, for Jim but I am even willing to accept I was wrong on THAT point! It doesn't defeat the principle, though... does it?
As you know, I am with you 100% on disliking single-make stuff UNLESS the rules are fairer!
I DON'T object to a single make class where Blue Printing is allowed and where the parts are available via more than one agent/importer, etc.. so long as that MANUFACTURER is not allowed to run a team!
You and I have both lived through unlimited tuning and, effectively, blue-printing. Those times alos co-incded with MUCH larger numbers of karters RACING! I think those two points were linked!
The kiddies of today have NO CONCEPT of (for example) the Club Kimbolton Christas races that had SO many 100 National entries that we were split into THREE independent LEAGUES as it was the ONLY way to cope with the VAST numbers of entrants! The don't have a CLUE about the ENORMOUS number of racers at Rye, packed like sardines around the pit that didn't have a SINGLE motorhome, awning!
To get the number of karters back up0 to THAT sort of level will need a root-and-branch change!
