Whilst testing at Rye on Friday we got some strange temperature readings from our Mychron. During the sessions the running temperature would be normal (approx 180 deg C) and then, when the rpm hit about 12K, it would spike suddenly to 220-230 deg C. There were also randomly occuring smaller spikes (to about 200 deg C) Normally the temperature varies fairly smoothly with no sudden changes. I looked at the plug and the engine appeared to be running fairly rich (plug tip dark brown in colour). I checked the piston from the exhaust port side and the carb side and there is no scoring visible (though there is a very slight scuff on the exhaust port side). Does anyone have any idea what might be causing these temperature spikes?
Here are some other relevant details... Engine: WTP Fuel: BP Ultimate unleaded Oil: Shell Racing X Synthetic Oil Ratio: 5 litres fuel / 250ml oil
Thanks,
Steve
