Personally, I'd put a couple of DROPS (and to do mean a MAXIMUM of a couple) of 2 stroke oil down the plug hole and wiggle the kart so you can be fairly sure it's run all the way around the top of the piston. That way, you can be pretty sure the rings have a slight lubrication.
If it was me and I KNEW the battery was strong enough, I'd then try to start it WITHOUT connecting the plug (but 'earthing' it) or removing the plug altogether (and earthing it). This would pull fuel (and thus oil) around the crank, bearings, etc. before I asked any component to take the FULL loading of being asked to fire.
Given time, I'd also dismantle the carb and clean it thoroughly as it's BOUND to be a bit 'nasty' in there.
I'd check the chain thoughoughly and opil it and spin the axle a few times to make sure nothing is too graunchy in the bearings.
Finally, I'd clean the whole thing THOROUGHLY! Cleaning makes you inspect every component and you can see what failed or is about to fail.
