Ben, I think you're adopting scare tactics there.
o Tightening the service interval from 50 hours to 12 hours is completely unnecessary. I know plenty of race winning drivers who are running motors with 40+ hours on them.
o Rebuilds can be done for a lot cheaper than you indicate. If you contact highly respected tuners like Paul Carr or Gary Munro who are maintaining race and championship winning drivers' engines you will not be charged the figures you've mentioned here.
o A brand new 2009 Senior Max motor, complete with all the accessories, is GBP1,700+VAT. It is perfectly possible to bolt that on and win races and championships at national level. You do not need to spend GBP5,000 on a motor to do that.
By far and away the biggest influence on performance in the Rotax classes is the driver - second to that would be the tyres. Much to the chagrin of the more well heeled competitors, you can't buy your way to the front through spending more on the engine.
Oh... and one final thing... demanding dyno readings from the seller of a second hand motor is a waste of time unless you are physically present at the dyno run yourself.
