No it is not just another money making scheme - Talko are suggesting these changes to try and increase the accessibility of of the class and increase it's attractiveness to new entrants over the Rotax classes withoout I hope trying to tur it into another class - it needs to remain a budget calss and allow people to do their own engines . The only thing is Talko may have left it a bit too late to be honest , and those of us that are great supporters of the class will have to think creatively and come up with ideas to make it sustainable - doing nowt is not necessarily an option 50 mm axles are standard in other classes so readily available withour special manufacturing - the tyres are supposed to give more grip (although it is true they may wear quicker) and the development of the TaG engine will ensure those who don't fancy the effort of the direct drive pushing will have an option that doesn't mean lugging a big off board starter around. Talko are still working on the weight/ speed of the TaG engine I believe . Alan Turney was certainly having meetings with TKM teams at Super 1 last weekend to get people to consider what needs to happen to promote the class. The class regulations may have to change a bit to compete in the market - or everyone will go to Rotax becuase they don't know any better becuse we don't promote the class enough and we will see the demise of the fantastic driving skills so evident in the TKM classes. You know that well known saying "those that can't DO - teach " well ( she says tongue firmly in cheek ) in karting terms - "those that CAN drive a kart - do TKM " the rest do Rotax . Light blue touch paper and stand well back !! and before anyone goes off on one and has a hissy fit ....I am taking the mickey - well a bit anyway - or maybe rotax fans don't know leg pulling when they read it
