If you do not know the tracks and don't do testing beforehand, then there is no real point in wasting money with a big team!
If you lets say have a 2 year plan, have you thought about using your 1st year as a learning curve and have a small limited budget with a view of spending big the following year when you know the format, tracks, kart set up, experience ect then go with a big team.
If you turn up at a new track generally even for a clubbie race weekend it still takes 4-5 sessions to sort out driving ect to be somewhere near the pace. Imagine S1 where your driving of a track has to be refined, not just OK!
My advice is look at your budget! I personally would spend more emphisis on testing and then go with a smaler team initially!
Like someone said earlier about racing ego's ect in a big team you will have to deal with that aspect aswell and the fact the best of everything will almost certainly go to the best driver
