What Quick Old Timer says is (usually) correct. However, you have told us SO little we don't have much chance here.... you never told us even if you put the right amount of Oil in or which TYPE of oil. And that's just ONE thing you may have done wrong... there are LOADS!
The old 100cc motors are the PINNACLE of kart engines... so much better than the silly stuff that's now available (bar the Aixro, of course!). They are therfore HIGHLY fragile and need a lot of thought before use. You can just bolt a Rotax Max onto the kart and run parafin in it and it'll be ok (exaggeration!) because it is SO underpowered. The 100cc is TUNED for power and it needs CARE in the setting up. If you don't know how, it's easy to learn and it's easy to set up if you are willing to learn a bit and are willing to treat it with respect.
First, take it to a long-term kart compnay: someone who will know about earlier motors. Once it's rebuilt, we can tell you how to set it up to give you HOURS of safe, reliable and FAST karting. It's just NOT a good idea to bolt one on and hope it will be ok. You wouldn't try running an F1 engine without understanding it, the 100cc is the equivalent.
