hello GAZ1970 40mm is best in low to medium track grip conditions , or using older tyres or getting a few races out of a set of tyres.
In high grip hot conditons you reach a point were a soft 40 mm axle with the wheels right out on the legal limit 1400mm still give too much grip and cause hopping and bogging down.
Last year we ran 40mm only and suffered at a few races were it was a hot grippy track. (Ok not usual in uk , but 2 S1 meetings last year were very hot)
This year we mixed 40mm and 50mm to suit the conditions and gave us a broader range of settings. In the grippiest track and conditions we ran 50mm soft at full width and won.
Next year with the new Maxxis greens promising a bit more grip , could mean running 40mm soft or going the full way with a 50mm. Depends on what your chassi can take , also your driving style as well.
