I know that the teams are getting tyres. Chris, I wouldn't worry about it, everyone is in the same boat. The feedback I've heard was that they are considerably quicker and not the finished article. I also heard they were pretty chewed up quite quickly which has been fedback to Talko for them to address.
Ok, so some drivers have had the chance to jump on the tyres for 10 laps or so but they probably got about as much from that as you will the first time you put them on. I don't think they are really at an advantage. The teams always set the trends and I think Talko made the right decision to let teams have them for testing purposes - It wont take long in 2010 for a trend to start emerging.
I've also heard that they worked well on the Viper and the JKH and there was no advantage in a CIK chassis. The only thing that concerns me is the additional grip that the tyres have to offer and how they perform on the TKM chassis during the summer months as nobody has had the opportunity to test them in high temperatures with lots of rubber down. This year will be a bit of a lottery and a learning curve for all but even the teams will be guessing at some points, even on gearing with the advantage of the new tyres!
I only hope the tyres dont make the class as boring as Rotax, some awful driving disguised by high grip tyres. (no disrespect to the many good drivers in Rotax). The great thing about the old TKM tyres was that they really seperate the good drivers from the bad.
Only time will tell...
