Guys, this needs some thought.
I'm not totally sure whether I am for or against. I am completely unconvinced by the organisers claims to be acting in line with the majority of competitors, because, like very many that have posted on here we have CERTAINLY NOT been asked for our opinion on the matter at any time.
Sonja also let us register and pay at the kart show without so much of a mention of the huge 70% increase in fees, but in fairness to her we didn't ask about fees either.
I do however want people to try and imagine a situation where the whole of S1 was televised, apart from TKM. It would make the TKM classes seem like the poor relation, and would act against the future health of the class at this level. Difficult innit?
I have to say that I support the view that an incidental exposure on some obscure specialist TV channel is unlikely to benefit us in any way, and anyone who buys into all that sponsorship potential nonsense is likely to be very dissappointed when compared to those of us who live in the real world.
If I told one of my clients that my fees were increasing by 70%, but no worries, as compared with their annual turnover it was a mere drop in the ocean, I think I would quickly run out of karting budget!!!!!!!
Come on S1 organisers, lets have the facts and figures on the vast majority that you claim to have been consulted. If you ain't got any perhaps time to ask all known S1 karters whether they want TV coverage or not... YES, send out a simple e-mail poll.
I've got a sneaky feeling what the real answer might be. I will also gladly go with the majority view, and pay the costs, so long as the huge increase in costs is shown factually rather than shrouded in politicians speak and spin.
