I had my 06 engine totall itself last year, it had only done 18 hours from new. However it had been hot when the water pump gears broke. It was a small end failure that wrecked the cases, read block and cylinder. My advice would be to anyone replace the top end at between six to ten hours depending on your budget, dont be so worried about the big end unless you have done a huge amount of hours on it.
As for an 08 engine being totaly useless, i have an 08 bog standard engine and an 09 that that has been checked over and looked after by Gary Munroe( who i cannot speak highly enough of! good job well done without trying to baffle you)
My 08 is about 3/10ths off my 09. (but has not been touched and had the squish set up as yet) Just get your top end set up and you will be fine. And can i have the 08 for 310.00 if you dont want it?
