TAG was always going to arrive, Rotax got in there at EXACTLY the right time......as Davy says, it can be argued that it accelerated the demise of 100cc classes, although Extreme, as Russ points out, is still going well at some circuits, and until a couple of years ago was still a very viable alternative to Rotax at a number of tracks, I recall that about three years or so ago, there were full grids of both Rotax and TKM at Three Sisters, the problems with TKM since then are probably down to extremely poor marketing and extensive grey areas within within the class, rather than anything to do with Rotax.
The economic downturn certainly hasn`t helped, but it can be argued that, if anything, this has adversely afftected Rotax, because, if anyone is looking for a budget class, then TKM and NOT Rotax is still the choice.
