A Clutch also has considerable down-side, too. It's a matter of 'balance' of the up-side and the down-side. You already feel you can see the benefits... now consider the disadvantages:
1) Increase costs 2) Increased servicing 3) Increased weight 4) increase in number of things that CAN go wrong.... and WILL go wrong at exactly the moment ou DON'T WANT IT TO! 5) If you starter battery goes flat.... you are B*GG*R*D 6) Change or loss in performance 7) Using the clutch reduces your RACING skills (why...? becaise without a clutch, you will learn ALL the tricks to prevent a spin/stall; with a clutch.... well.... why bother to learn?) Once you have spun.... you've 'lost' the race ANYWAY! 8) If you spin/stall a DD, you CAN always re-start a kart.... WITH a clutch..... forget it!
If old fat men like me can still do it.... surely.......
As I said, you have to weigh the balance for yourself.... so does everybody else.... clutches are definitely 'easier'.... so why don't 99% of racers use them? And why don't 90% of WINNERS use them.....?
