David's doing a fine job....
However, if you are right, GQ, that seat stays stiffen the rear... then can you please explain how 2 stays (on the same side) make it even STIFFER than 1 stay? For that to be true, surely that would have to imply that the stiffening ROD (use in compression) is actually pretty FLOPPY because a SECOND one MUST be helping to removed some the floppyness! Think about that...... 'floppy steel....... in COMPRESSION!"
All that would be GREAT but you are suggesting that a SECOND seat stay counters the floppiness.... BUT.... the 'fixed end' of your 'stiffener' is mounted into EXTREMELY flexible FIBREGLASS..... Wouldn't it bit be MORE reasonable to assume that if one STIFF-AS-HELL seat stay mounted into fiberglass isn';t strong enough.... it's more likely to be the FIBREGLASS that's the weak point!
Finally, why is it that if 2 seat stays do better than 1..... why not 27?
If you want to stiffen with EXTRA seat stays... try stiffening the SEAT matearial...... FIRST!
