Hi All,
New around here, and new to karting, so please be gentle if I appear an idiot.
Have recently bought a used Intrepid TKM Extreme, with the intention of doing some practice and eventually racing at Hooton Park, and I've got a few questions.
Rims. What rim widths will be a good starting point for dry tyres? I've got 120/175 (bead-to-bead width F/R). I notice Talko recommend 130/210 (overall width) for the Green Maxxis. Do I need to get wider rears, or is it worth trying what I've got until I've got used to the idea of driving a kart? What'sa good starting point for wet rim widths?
Gearing. Is the suggestion of 10/80 for Hooton going to be in the ball park?
Engines/starting. This is the big question. I'll be going karting on my own, so clutched is out of the question as there's no-one to press the button. Which leaves me with TAG, or the direct drive engine that came with the kart and an easy start wheel. I'm assuming that starting a stone cold engine by pushing the kart on my own is going to be pretty difficult. Do I just bite the bullet and buy a TAG engine?
Finally, kart I bought has an unpainted chassis. Tempted to paint it - any views?
Thanks in advance.
Liam
