Hi liam
first off welcome, and youve made a good choice in kart. the intrepid tends to go very well in tkm. in terms of rims, yes the rears could do with being 210, however you can buy the aluminium ones off spellfame for 50 quid for all 4 wheels so its not that expensive, yes magnesium ones are theoretically better, but ive never noticed any difference and as a novice you wouldnt either. the rear wets should be 175/180s so you can use the set you have got for a wet set. in terms of gearing 10/80 is a good start, at the moment we are running anything from 76-80, depending on your experience/personal preference but as a novice 10/80 will give you a happy medium of acceleration and top speed.
engines, thats a difficult one, if i were you id stick with what youve got for now, a new tag engine is around 1000 quid mark, you would be better spending that money on other things like tyres, spares, or even saving it!...keep the DD, put on an easystart wheel and learn to push for now!!!...ive got a clutched engine, which i like but then ive got my parents to help. the DD engine isnt that hard to start, it just takes practice.
finally leave the chassis unpainted, no need to paint it, although its down to personal preference, after every use get some wire wool and wd40, clean the clean the chassis then wire wool any surface rust off and put some wd40 along the chassis rails, although stear clear of putting it where the engine would go as it can make the mounts slide!
