My lad is one of the many Senior drivers that for the time being has decided to give Super 1 a miss.
At PFi, we had two sets of new practice tyres that were ordered with our Parc ferme tyres so it was fair to assume that they would all be the same. On the Friday, we used one set and ended up with a decent setup. On the Saturday, it was wet so we did not get onto slicks. On the Sunday morning, we used the second set of practice tyres for the 10min warm up and still had similar pace to the Friday. Less than an hour later we are on our parc ferme tyres going four tenths slower and looking like an accident waiting to happen !!!!
At Rowrah, same thing, two sets of practice tyres. Ran Friday with first set, not the best times. Ran the two sessions Saturday morning on the second set still not brilliant. Put on the parc ferme tyres to qualify and we are five tenths quicker!!!!
With regard to the cameras what a waste of time and money. At Rowrah, they did not stop all the carnage at the start and first hairpin. Tried to use the camera on the Saturday practice at a local club meeting. Anyone would have thought we had bolted on a machine gun with the amount of fuss being made about what a safety issue they are supposed to be. 235 and you can't even use it!!!
If our experience of this years Super 1 is anything to go by, you will only be as good as the tyres you draw on Saturday morning.
