Liam and Traxtar, I was maybe a bit harsh last night and appologise, bad league night on the poker table! However all I was trying to do in my first post was to give some of my free time to offer some advice from my personal experiences of rebuilding BT82 engines, I wasn't trying to amuse people. Our engines definately don't perform as well just after running in as they do after an hours post running in time on them, maybe my bores are that much tighter than some engine builders, I don't know, well I do actually, I've seen some really big tolerances coming from respected builders and some really poor machining on heads and barrel tops that I've had to sort out. What I do know, however, is what happens on my stop watch. Taxtar, I also appreciate that the carbon build up increases the compression and decreases the head volume which is why I regularly decoke heads and pistons, it also reduces the risk of a head strike should a chain decide to part company especially with worn journals. With excessive carbon build up, in my opinion, the burn isn't as clean, as the glowing carbon is trying to ignite the fuel before it's ready ie 1.5 - 2.1mm before TDC, which often manifests itself in overly wet plugs.
Happy racing guys
Drew
