yeh the number of laps depends on the track, whether its msa or non msa, time of the year etc. at hooton we tended to get 3 10 lap heats and a 12 lap final during the summer on a relatively short track, at 3 sisters ive had 3 12 lap heats and a 15 lap final, but the track is longer, its all about the tracks ability to keep things moving on race day....time can be lost very quickly!
in msa racing we tend to spend saturday testing ready for sunday race day, which is purely racing. you really need several sessions to get yourself and the kart dialed in....usually yourself to be honest....once the kart is somewhere near a good setup you tend to leave it alone especially as a novice..you just need bum in seat time!
i know on my kart last year i just had a dry and wet setup...theres very little i touched on the kart all year, just the tyre pressures depending on track conditions, but this will depend on the class your racing in.
