Tyre removal frustration

As a new comer to the wonderful world that is kart tyre changing, particularly with the arrival of Mojo's I seem to be spending most of my weekend wrestling with some rubber on the living room carpet, not the funI thought it was going to be. I have found that some tyres are easier to get on and off than others. All the wheels are 140mm mixture of jets and OTK Mags. I am having a real problem getting a pair of SL8s off of the OTK mags, there doesn't seem to be any room between the rim and the tyre, all the usual techniques aren't working, I nearly took a Stanley knife to them today. Is this a common problem with mags, this is the first time I have had to take the tyres off the mags, am I missing something, should I throw them in the oven first?
